Financials & Cash Flow

Roofing Profit & Cash Flow Blueprint: Financials for Roofing Contractors

Know your true job costs, overhead recovery, and cash flow cycle well enough to price and plan around roofing's seasonal swings instead of getting surprised by them.

Who This Course Is For

Busy is not the same thing as profitable — and most owners can't tell you which one they are

Owners whose bank balance doesn't match how busy the company has been, or who have no clear picture of what any given job or season actually made.

If storm season leaves you flush and the slow months leave you sweating payroll — or if you've ever finished a big job and honestly weren't sure whether it made money — this course is built for exactly that gap. It's not accounting theory. It's the specific numbers a roofing company owner needs to watch, in language built for someone running a roof crew, not a finance department.

This is probably you if:

  • Your bank balance never quite matches how busy the crews have been
  • You couldn't say with confidence what your last three jobs actually made
  • Slow season cash flow is a scramble every single year
  • You look at your P&L, if you look at it at all, and don't fully trust what it's telling you

Why This Matters

A great storm season can quietly hide a roofing company that isn't actually making money

Roofing runs on a boom-and-bust rhythm most industries don't deal with — a big storm can generate more revenue in six weeks than the rest of the year combined, and that flood of cash can mask a real problem underneath: jobs priced too thin, overhead that isn't being recovered, and no real sense of which type of work is actually profitable versus which type just feels busy.

When storm revenue is strong, the cracks don't show. It's the slow season — payroll still due, overhead still running, revenue a fraction of what it was — that exposes whether the business is actually healthy or just riding storm cycles from one cash crunch to the next. Add insurance-restoration payment timing on top of that (deductibles, ACV and RCV draws, waiting on supplements) and a company that's technically profitable on paper can still run out of cash in practice.

This course exists to close that gap: real job costing so you know what a job actually made, a cash-flow plan built around roofing's specific seasonal swings, and a plain- English read on your own numbers. It's the financial backbone behind the platform's Crew Leader → Operator → Owner framework — an owner runs the business by the numbers, not by how the bank balance feels this week.

The Curriculum

Six modules. One clear picture of what your roofing company actually makes.

Each module builds on the last — starting with why a busy storm season can hide a money-losing business, ending with how to reinvest profit without overextending the company.

Module 1

Why a big storm season can hide a business that isn't actually profitable

A busy storm season can feel like proof the business is healthy — trucks running, crews booked out, revenue climbing. It can also be hiding a company that's losing money on a chunk of its jobs and simply never noticing, because there's enough volume to cover the leaks. This module covers how to tell the difference between a busy season and a profitable one.

Module 2

Job costing for roofing: materials, labor, waste, subcontractor cost, overhead

Job costing in roofing means tracking materials, labor, waste factor, subcontractor cost, and overhead against every job — not just checking whether the bank balance went up after a good month. You'll build a simple job-costing approach you can run on the jobs you're already doing, so you know what any given roof actually made, not just what it billed.

Module 3

Managing cash flow through seasonal swings: storm season vs. slow season

Roofing's seasonality means cash comes in waves — storm season floods it in, the slow season drains it back out — and a lot of otherwise-solid roofing companies get caught short in the gap. This module covers building a cash-flow plan around that rhythm: what to hold back during the good months, and how to plan payroll and overhead through the slow ones.

Module 4

Handling insurance-job payment timing (deductibles, ACV/RCV draws) as a cash-flow issue — not an insurance topic

Insurance-restoration jobs come with payment timing that's different from a straight retail sale — deductibles, ACV and RCV draws, and the lag before a supplement gets approved and paid. This module treats that timing purely as a cash-flow planning issue: what to expect, how to plan around it, and how to avoid a cash crunch caused by draws you didn't plan the calendar around.

Module 5

Reading your P&L and cash flow in plain English

Most roofing company owners can read a bank balance. Far fewer can actually read a P&L or a cash-flow statement and know what it's telling them. This module translates both into plain English — what to look at first, which numbers actually matter for a roofing business, and how to use them to make decisions instead of just filing them away for the accountant.

Module 6

Reinvesting profit: trucks, crews, and equipment without overextending

Profit that isn't reinvested with a plan tends to either sit unused or get spent reactively — a truck here, a hire there, without a clear return in mind. This module covers how to reinvest deliberately: which purchases actually grow capacity (trucks, crews, equipment) and how to do it without overextending the company's cash position going into a slow season.

What You Walk Away With

A job-costing and cash-flow process — not a finance lecture

The Profit & Cash Flow Blueprint is built around what you actually put to work on your own numbers: a job-costing worksheet you can run on the jobs you're already doing, a cash-flow planning approach built for roofing's storm-season/slow-season swings, a plain-English framework for reading your own P&L, and a reinvestment approach that grows capacity without overextending cash.

None of it requires an accounting background or new software. It's built to work with the numbers you already have, so you can start applying it to the season you're in right now.
